About the Teacher
Dear 2nd Grade Families,
Greetings, and welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! My name is Heather Gordon, and I’m excited to be joining Ms. Sullivan and Mrs. Whelan on the 2nd grade team this year!
Originally from Brooklyn, NY, I attended Brooklyn College as part of their CUNY Honors College. I graduated with a B.A in Childhood Education (Grades 1-6) with a concentration in Psychology in 2006, and an M.S.E.D in Childhood Mathematics Education (Grades 1-6) in 2009. During the past decade, I was fortunate to work in a variety of public and private schools in both NY and NJ, but am looking forward to beginning my third year at OLC.
Math is my passion, and I strongly believe that it can be fun, engaging, and accessible to all students. If you don’t believe me, check out MoMath, where I worked for a year as an Interpreter. In addition to being part of OLC’s math committee, I also run a Math Club here at OLC. Additionally, along with Mrs. Whelan, I also serve as one of the Girl’s on the Run coaches here at OLC. I have been working hard all summer, and hope to be able to run the 5k with the girls this season!
I recently became a first-time aunt to an adorable little girl named Charlotte, whose library is rapidly filling with donations from her favorite (and only) aunt. I also have one cat, a spunky and headstrong seven-year-old Calico named Gizmo (like the Gremlin), who I adore. In my spare time, I am a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (the SCA), which focuses on recreating the people and cultures of the pre-Renaissance world (years 0-1600). I also love to read, travel, and spend time with my friends and family.
I look forward to working with you all to make this year as successful and memorable as my second grade year was for me! Please do not hesitate to contact me at email@example.com .
