A MessageFrom the Principal’s Desk
May 27, 2010
Dear Parents/Guardians:
As you will remember, the TerraNova was administered during the week of March 8th. Students in grades 1-7 took this assessment. The results of the test have arrived and are being analyzed. Enclosed you will find a copy of your child’s Home Report.
As you probably know, the scores on the TerraNova are reports as percentile scores, which are different than percentage scores. For example, a score in the 80th percentile means that the child has scored better than 80% of the children taking the same test at the same grade level. It does not mean he/she had 80% of the answers correct. In addition to the detailed information you get, the school receives informative reports that help to inform teaching and learning.
Please understand that a standardized test like the TerraNova is only one means of measuring a child’s progress. Here at The OLC School, we look at multiple measures to determine a child’s progress as well as his/her strengths and weaknesses.
As the school’s principal and test coordinator, I will be working with the faculty and staff analyzing the test results in order to plan for next year. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher and/or me.
In peace,
Anna Mae Stefanelli
Principal
